Program Resumes for Summer 2022

We are pleased to announce that, after a two-year-long hiatus, we will resume our summer school abroad program in Lyon, France this coming summer!

Dates:  Sunday, June 12 to Friday, July 22

Basic Scheduling Information: Mandatory Orientation on Sunday, June 12, followed by six weeks of classes from June 13 to July 21, with class days of Monday-Thursday. Final exams on Friday, July 22.  All classes meet daily during the six weeks of class.

Scheduling Caveats: Due to travel testing protocols for international flights (as of 2-14-22), students are encouraged to consider scheduling their arrival in Europe at least five days before the first day, June 12, with a plan to explore Lyon or other areas in advance of the program.  Students are similarly encouraged to schedule their return flights to the US at least a week before they must report back to any other mandatory event in the US and set aside some additional funds in reserve to cover the contingency of a post-summer-program isolation period before being allowed to board a flight for the US.

Housing and Travel: Students arrange their own airline tickets and housing; some recommendations for general location based the site of the program can be obtained at the next orientation session. In order to manage the risks created by uncertainties surrounding COVID-19, students are encouraged to purchase refundable airfares, to arrange for refundable lease deposits, and to consider purchasing appropriate travel insurance. The Law Center does not insure student travel arrangements.  (Note not all private travel insurance would be appropriate in these circumstances; investigate the coverage.)

Summer 2020 Program CANCELLED

The health, safety, and welfare of our students is our number one priority. Due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19, aka the novel coronavirus, the LSU Law in Lyon Study Abroad Program has been cancelled for the 2020 Summer.  While we know many of you are  disappointed by this cancellation, unfortunately this outbreak is an extraordinary circumstance beyond our control.

For those students who had completed registration prior to the cancellation, you will soon receive direct communications from the Program Directors and Administration discussing with you in greater detail issues the complications that this global health issue causes, and what cancellation of the program might pose to you (e.g., unrecoverable expenses, the need to schedule courses here at home to replace those you had planned to take in Lyon).

From the Broadcast Announcement sent on behalf of Interim Dean Lockridge, sent March 6, 2020:

Dear Law Center Community:

***

The Law Center—along with the rest of the University—is monitoring the news on the virus outbreak, and we at the Law Center are engaged in planning processes for how to keep our educational program on track and still in compliance with our accreditation standards, as best we can, regardless of interruptions that may or may not come our way. I want you to know we take the health and safety of our students, staff, and faculty very seriously; that will continue to be of paramount importance as we move forward.

Unfortunately, our Lyon program is part of the study-abroad cancellation that was just announced by LSU. We will be unable to offer that program this year—it will be the first time in over 30 years that we will not have a summer program in France.
