By their intelligence and determination, they each played essential roles in applying the doctrines and methodology of the Civil Law to produce the rich Louisiana legal tradition of today. LSU law professor Olivier Moréteau will present a talk on Francois Xavier Martin and a historical overview of the Court in the early 19th Century just after statehood, and in the formative years of true Louisiana law. Justice Albert Tate’s storied career as a jurist will be discussed by Grover Joseph Rees, III, United States Ambassador (Retired).   Judge James L. Dennis will speak about the 20 years he served on the Louisiana Supreme Court. Retired Chief Justice Pascal F. Calogero, Jr. will then discuss his own 36-year tenure.
