Summer Program in Lyon 2016 Information Meeting

We will be having a Lyon Informational Meeting at 3 pm on Thursday, January 21 in Room 106.  We will discuss the academic program, finances, travel plans, housing, etc….  The meeting is not mandatory and it will be repeated.  However, now is the time to begin planning.  We look forward to seeing you and encourage anyone interested in the program to attend.

Café Français – International Table

The Cafe Français and International Table will resume this Friday, January 15, 12:40 to 1:40 pm, in the CCLS Conference Room (W326B). Whether student, staff, or faculty, bring your lunch, good humor, and be ready to converse in French, German, Spanish, or any language you bring to the table. Coffee will be served.

Expect one meeting every other week: January 15 and 29, February 12 and 26, March 11, April 1 and 15.

Congratulations to Dr. Agustín Parise, LSU LL.M. 2006, on his second doctorate!

Dr. Agustín Parise received his law degree from the University of Buenos Aires and a LL.M. in Comparative Law from the LSU Law Center. From 2006 to 2010, he worked as a Research Associate at the Center of Civil Law Studies, and is the Executive Editor of our Journal of Civil Law Studies. He received a Doctorate in Law from the University of Buenos Aires, and after a year in Germany (Max Plank Institut in Frankfort and Hamburg), he joined the faculty of the University of Maastricht School of Law. A widely published scholar of comparative law and legal history, Dr. Agustín Parise received a second doctorate from the University of Maastricht, having publicly defended, on November 10, 2015, his dissertation on “Ownership Paradigms in the Legislation of Louisiana, Chile, and Argentina (16th -20th century).” 

Our sincere congratulations to Agustín Parise and his wife Julieta Marotta (LSU LL.M. 2007 and doctorate candidate at the University of Maastricht), with our best wishes for a great future: the LSU Law community is so proud of their achievement!

Dan Stigall to Address LSU Law Students on Comparative Law Job Opportunities

All LSU Law Students, particularly the 1Ls, are invited to join the International Law Society on Tuesday, November 10th at 3:30pm in Room 106 to hear Dan Stigall speak while enjoying Insomnia Cookies!

Dan E. Stigall, Coordinator for International Security Affairs at the U.S. Department of Justice, will give a presentation on Comparative Law and the International Order.

He will also talk about employment opportunities in the field of International Law, particularly with the Departments of State, Justice, Commerce, and federal agencies in general.

Dan E. Stigall is an attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of International Affairs, where he serves as Coordinator for International Security Affairs. He previously served on active duty in the U.S. Army JAG Corps from 2001-2009, serving in Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. Jason Maison-Marcheux Joins the CCLS Team

Jason Maison-Marcheux is a graduate of the Paris 1 (Panthéon-Sorbonne) University Faculty of Law. He wrote his Master’s research paper on the centrality of the Louisiana Civil Code and French cultural influences. He joins the Center of Civil Law Studies as our new Research Associate, and will work at the implementation of the Louisiana Civil Code Translation Project and the publication of the papers of last year’s conference on “The Louisiana Civil Code Translation Project: Enhancing Visibility and Promoting the Civil Law in English,” all projects sponsored by the Partner University Fund (PUF).

Karel Roynette, LL.M. 2010, Visits with Family

Karel Roynette, a graduate of the Versailles University Faculty of Law (2004) and LSU LL.M. graduate (2010) visited the LSU Law Center with family. Karel worked at the law firm of Warren Perrin in Lafayette in 2008-2009 before joining the LL.M. class of 2009-2010. He met Jamie, an English teacher from Lafayette, who became his wife. They moved to Paris where Karel is a lawyer at the Paris office of Clausen Miller and Jamie works as a teacher. Karel is a member of the Paris and New York Bars. His LL.M. paper was recently published as an article in the Journal of Civil Law Studies (Drawing the Line of the Scope of the Duty of Care in American Negligence and French Fault-Based Tort Liability).
