CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES

    Street Law

    Street Law is a program aimed at providing high school aged students with practical legal knowledge. Street Law’s interactive methods of teaching focus in legal issues relevant to students’ lives. This program provides law students an opportunity to engage with Baton Rouge or their home communities and lead weekly or biweekly lessons.

    Requirements:

    • One day orientation;
    • Weekly or biweekly visits to a Baton Rouge area high school; or
    • A one-time or reoccurring visit to your former high school (must have teacher or principal approval)

    Front Yard Bikes

      Front Yard Bike is a unique program that offers a multitude of volunteer experiences for law students and the community. Traditionally, LSU Law has participated in FYB’s Academic Accountability tutoring program. While this option is always available, this year we are expanding our volunteer opportunities within the organization.

      Requirements:

      • This program is the least committal of all Education and Youth Outreach programs. All we ask is that if you commit to volunteering at one of their many programs, you show up! Not only is this an opportunity for you to give back to the community it is also training for our future careers.
      • If you are volunteering for Wednesday tutoring, you are not required to show up every Wednesday.

      While we do request that you show up to all events you’ve signed up for, we do understand that emergencies happen. There may even be times when you are simply overwhelmed by your studies or life’s circumstances. In these instances, we ask that you reach out to the Education and Youth Outreach Chair (Jasmine Ward) or one of the Committee Chairs immediately. It is preferred that we inform the organizations of your absence or arrange to send someone in your place, prior to the day of commitment.
