CANDIDATE STATEMENTS

Candidates for Secretary / Treasurer

Grey Fitzgerald

Howdy there PILS peeps!
My name is Grey Fitzgerald, and I’m running for the PILS treasurer/secretary! PILS has been a great opportunity for someone like me to live out my law school fantasy. I’m eternally grateful for getting to be so involved within the Baton Rouge community. Tutoring with Front Yard Bikes weekly has become a “non-negotiable” for me. The kids help me far more than I help them.
That being said, I want to give back to the organization/community that has given me so much. While I don’t have extensive experience managing money, I normally win the family monopoly games. I’m also the banker when we play. In all seriousness, I believe my monopoly skills coupled with many other essential nuggets of financial information and practices I have picked up on my way will make me a responsible and even-handed secretary/treasurer! I think managing and directing the club’s funds directly ties into the amount of community service/pro-bono/philanthropy opportunities we will be able to have. That is a challenge I would be privileged to embark on. Thank you so much for your consideration!
Your faithful monopoly banker,
Grey Fitzgerald

Eliza Eligio

I joined PILS my 1L year. Every semester starting that spring I signed up for the PILS day of service and two semesters in a row, the event was cancelled. This spring I was finally able to do a day of service, which resulted in the glamorous job of picking up trash from the side of the road. Although this may not have been the most fun job that day, I knew that having fun was not the reason I was there. I wanted to give back to my community, and if that meant trash duty, then so be it. Last Summer I was awarded the PILS Fellowship when I did pro bono work with the Cuban American Bar Association. There are so many people who need help, and in so many ways.

I know I would be great as the Secretary Treasurer for PILS. I have extensive leadership experience, ranging from President to Historian of many clubs over the past ten years. I am great at keeping people informed, maintaining a budget, and being organized. As a Community Director in undergrad, I managed a budget of $6,500, and supervised a staff of twelve, who in turn were in charge of 450 residents.

Thanks for your time, thank you for voting. I hope together we can build PILS into the altruistic giant it once was! Good luck on finals!
Eliza Eligio
