Every year Executive Board Members of the Southern Region of the National Black Law Student Association (“SRBLSA”) hold the Annual Sub-Region II Academic Retreat. This year’s retreat scheduled to take place October 11-12, 2013 at Tulane University Law School and will be hosted by the Black Law Student Association, Tulane University Law School Chapter. The theme for this year’s retreat is:
Raising the Bar: Equipping Diverse Lawyers for Leadership
This year, we anticipate approximately 100 Law Students and Legal Professionals to participate in the retreat. Through this annual retreat, student participants have the opportunity to network with several leaders, educational mentors, and practitioners in the legal field. The Academic Retreat is a full weekend of inspirational workshops where experienced legal practitioners provide practical advice for law students from schools throughout the southern region regarding how to excel in law school and in the legal workforce. First year law students will participate in an academic boot camp where they will be provided with advice and information on how to approach law school. Proposed workshops for second and third year law students include: a public sector panel, a sole practitioner panel, employment law, alternative career panel and a panel devoted to providing law students with advice on handling inter-sectional challenges related to gender and race in the legal profession. The retreat will also feature a networking reception to commence the retreat activities and a mid-day lunch with a special keynote address and a highlight of stand-out retreat moments.
