Welcome Class of 2015!!!

Hello All!

As the president of L.A.W. I wanted to welcome all of you to PMH for the new school year on behalf of myself, the L.A.W. executive board, and the Legal Association of Women in general.  We have a lot of great things planned for L.A.W. this year. From Belly Up with the Bar and fundraisers to community service projects and collaborations with other LSU Law clubs, we are looking forward to a great year.  Come see what we have to offer and how you can be a part of it at our first general meeting on August 27.  Until then, look us up on Facebook or shoot us an email at lawatlsu@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Haley H. Jones

MONDAY LUNCH MEETING

The Legal Association is hosting its first Women in Law Speaker Series Panel!  This discussion will focus on succeeding in the large firm environment and will feature three excellent female attorneys: Ms. Nicole Gould from Brezeale, Sachses, and Wilson, Ms. Pam Mascari from Kean Miller, and Ms. Michelle Craig from Adams and Reese. These speakers will discuss the unique challenges facing women in the large firm environment, including balancing work, family, and community involvement and breaking past the boys club.  ALL ARE WELCOME!  LUNCH WILL BE SERVED!

Professor Lonegrass’s Outlining Tips!

Outlining

  1. Find old outlines, look through them to get an overall sense of course

  1. Determine structure of outlines

  1. Synthesize old outlines, notes, readings.  Identify what you don’t understand.

  1. Meet with study group, compare outlines, talk about things you don’t understand.  Set deadlines and work goals.  Talk all the way through the material.

  1. Work old exams.  Compare with study group.  Turn into professors early to get them to review.

  1. Memorize.  Make mini-outlines and attack plans.

3-2-1 Study Method

  • Go in order of exams
  • Mark off days you won’t study
  • Add an extra “1” the day before exams
  • Because of married life, helpful to add an extra “4” level (I preferred adding extra days for outlining: 1-2-3-2-1-1)

VOLUNTEER TRAINING THIS WEDNESDAY!!!

L.A.W. will be offering ongoing community service opportunities on Wednesday evenings at the local battered women’s shelter.  YOU DO NOT HAVE TO COMMIT TO EVERY WEDNESDAY.  On the contrary, we are hoping to give many different volunteers the opportunity to serve.  TO VOLUNTEER AT ALL THIS YEAR, YOU MUST ATTEND THIS TWO-HOUR TRAINING.  Please see the Contact page and email us if you have any questions.  We hope to see you Wednesday.
