Weekly Encouraging Email January 24, 2012

Hey CLS fam!

CLS Bible Study has a new day and time!  The meeting will be monthly and has moved to Tuesdays during the 12:40pm lunch hour! Next week, you should be receiving information about exact dates!

Also, save the date for the first general meeting on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 12:40pm In Room 108.  More information to come!

Now, for some encouragement….

“Don’t be afraid,” he said, “for you are very precious to God. Peace! Be encouraged! Be strong!” Daniel 10:19

This is what an angel told Daniel in a vision after Daniel had fasted and prayed for 21 days to no avail.  The angel was letting Daniel know that God was going to answer his prayers.

The thing is, the angel could have just said, “Hey Daniel, God heard your prayers and He plans to answer you!” but instead, he took the time to encourage Daniel.  The Bible tells us to encourage one other, so taking the lead of the angel, that’s what I hope to do!

First, the angel told Daniel to not be afraid—so I’m tell you “Don’t be afraid” of anything—not of looking stupid in class or failing out or anything. Trust God to help you in every circumstance- He will! The Lord is your light and salvation—so whom should you fear? NO ONE! (Psalm 27:1)

Second, the angel told Daniel that he is very precious to God—so I’m telling you—YOU are very precious to God!  He sent His Son Jesus to earth just to reconcile you to Himself! (John 3:16)  If God would let His Son die so that you don’t have to, that tells you how precious you are to Him (and if you don’t have a true relationship with Him—please know that He is wanting just that because you are VERY PRECIOUS to Him).

Third, the angel spoke peace into Daniel’s life— so I’m speaking PEACE in your life—you can have peace in every situation, even when things look like it will not go your way, know the peace of God which surpasses all understanding is available for you. (Philippians 4:7)

Lastly, the angel spoke encouragement to Daniel—so I’m telling you—BE ENCOURAGED and BE STRONG!  God’s got you—and if you commit your endeavors to the Lord, your plans will succeed!  (Proverbs 16:3).

Hope you’ve been encouraged!  Make it a GREAT week!

And now for some weekly encouragement….

Election season can bring out the U-G-L-Y in people. Being law students, I am sure that you all know exactly what I’m talking about.  Most of us are pretty passionate about our views. It’s easy to get into a debate about whose side Jesus is on and who is right and who is wrong, etc… If you are anything like me, however, you struggled with making the decision that you believe aligns with your faith, morals, and values. While browsing facebook, I caught the status of my former youth pastor. It read: God is not a Democrat nor a Republican! He didn’t come to choose sides, He came to take over!”

The picture is so much bigger than who is in office/who will be in office. It’s important to remember that while the presidency is important, it is not the end-all-be-all. God is still in control. It is our duty to vote and PRAY. Pray for whoever is in office, and pray for God’s divine will to prevail regardless of who wins.

Happy Voting/See You Next Monday,

CLS Weekly Encouragement Email October 29

Hello all,

It’s gotten to be really cold, and there is a flu going around law school, so this week’s theme will be praying against sickness and keeping on with the good fight, along with a reminder to find an hour a week to exercise, a super easy recipe for ginger tea, and a reminder to get the flu shot tomorrow if you haven’t already done so. Tomorrow is the last day the Health Center is giving flu shots. Don’t miss your chance to get vaccinated!

Verses of the week:

“Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.” James 5:14

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” Romans 12:12

Have a blessed week!

CLS Weekly Encouragement Email October 22

CLS Fam!

I hope that this email finds you well. I just wanted to send you guys some encouragement for the week.

2 Thess 3:16:  “NOW, may the Lord of peace himself give you His Peace at all times and in every situation.  The Lord be with you all.

Many of us are restless, anxious, fatigued, and overwhelmed as finals steadily approach. This evening, stop and receive the Lord’s peace. Everyday He wants to give us the grace we need to accomplish every task and get through every moment. With this grace comes peace– abundant peace. His peace is the kind of peace that brings assurance that everything is going to work out, even when we don’t dot every and cross every t. It’s the kind of peace that is able to wipe away every worry and fear. It’s the kind of peace that is able to transform your dreary disposition. Since He promised it and is ready to give it, all we have to do is receive it.

I hope this verse blesses you as it blesses me.

In His Peace,

Johanna and the CLS Officers

CLS Weekly Encouragement October 17

Good morning CLS members!

I hope everyone is having a great week.  I know the lack of parking on campus can sometimes cause the day to get off to a rough start.   There have been many mornings I have found myself getting rather angry and impatient as I circled the parking lot over and over trying to find a space, so I decided to find some verses I could think about on those mornings.  I hope these verses are as encouraging to you as they have been to me, whether it’s parking or anything else in your life that is getting to you.

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.   Ephesians 4:31-32

He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.  Proverbs 16:32

Have a blessed week!

CLS weekly encouragement October 7

Weekly Encouragement

“Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.”  Col. 3:17 (MSG)

Law school is just a season; whether you’re just starting out or rounding the bend, it will be over before you know it.  With that being said, the Bible tells us that in EVERYTHING that we do, do it in the name (as a representative) of Jesus, and be thankful to God about it!  Does that mean law school too?  Doing law school as a representative of Jesus and thanking God every step of the way, including during exams?  YES…. Everything means everything.

Keeping a thankful attitude in such a stressful season is not the easiest thing to do but God tells us this in 2 Cor 12:9: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (ESV).  Grace is God’s unmerited favor– grace is God doing good for us that we don’t deserve.   God can HELP us keep a good attitude, especially in the stressful seasons of our lives.  His grace will allow us to do whatever we do, representing Jesus well… And that’s something to be THANKFUL for!

Remember if you want prayer, please let us know so that we can pray for you!  And, if you have a praise, we like to hear those too!

CLS weekly encouragement September 24

Facing Your Giants by Max Lucado.

While the maxim is somewhat simple, it is easy to forget God and focus on your Giants. Law school is undoubtedly one of those giants. While I do not advocate for anyone to not focus on law school (forgive the double negative), it is important to include God in your day and focus on Him. We all probably read more than we want to already but I encourage you to take time to read something besides your casebooks, at least a few times a week. For me, I try and start my day with reading the Lord’s word, and end my day, reading a chapter of a book like Facing Your Giants. While time, sleep, and energy to read may undoubtedly all be lacking, combat negativity, cynicism, and doubt by reading truth and trusting in the Lord.

Here is a verse to hold on to for the week, especially in the most trying times:

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”

Romans 12:12

Weekly Encouragement Email, 9/17/12

With the news of today’s  bomb threat, I couldn’t help but think how the Enemy of our souls goes out of his way to threaten us. He knows our weaknesses and will certainly push every button to get us to break. Whether it be through our own emotions, life circumstances, or other people we’ve all been a target of the devil’s tactics. If we are not careful, his empty threats can cripple us.

In times like these, Psalms 91:1 can provide some solace: “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High God shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.” WOW!  We can rest assured knowing that when we choose to place our trust in God and draw near to him he becomes our fortress and strong tower. We can sit back, relax, and enjoy the peace found in his presence while the rest of the world is marred by panic. The truth is,  you are the apple of God’s eye (Zechariah 2:8). He has your back and cares more about your safety and well being than you do. When you feel like you are under attack, run to the feet of Jesus and trust Him to fight ALL of your battles.
